Traditional Bocuk Festival

The Bocuk festival or (Bocuk Gecesi) is believed to be an ancient Balkan tradition, although its exact origins have never been determined. Every year residents of the village dress up as scary characters and the children walk the streets banging on the doors and windows of houses hoping to frighten the residents. Bocuk is a word used in the Thrace region for “harshest winter night” and it is believed that people who celebrate it will have a healthy and prosperous year.
